The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Arts, Culture and Tourism, Mr Dele Ogunsemoyin has charged communities in Ekiti State not to hesitate in showcasing their cultural values and heritage to the whole world for economic and social transformation.

Ogunsemoyin gave this charge at the celebration of annual OLOKUN festival in Aramoko Ekiti, held at the palace of the town's traditional ruler, the Alara of Aramoko, Oba Olu Adeyemi.

The PS, represented by the Director Culture, Mr Abdul Babalola called on Ekiti sons and daughters to value what they have, especially the cultural heritage, saying that now is the time for Ekiti State to look beyond the Federal allocation to strengthen the economic base of the state.

He explained that, the purpose of his team's coming to the town for the festival was to collaborate with the Royal father and the community on how to make the cultural event attractive to people outside the community.
Ogunsemoyin appreciated the Chairman of Ekiti West Local Government,  Hon. Olusesan Samuel Okere for his readiness to keep the cultural flag flying in his area and emphasising that, "all hands must be on deck to promote Art, Culture and Tourism in Ekiti State".

The Permanent Secretary expressed happiness over the large turn out of people of Aramoko Ekiti and urged them to improve on cultural exposition which he said was capable of turning their economy around without delay.

Ogunsemoyin congratulated the monarch and the entire Aramoko Ekiti indigenes at home and in the diaspora for witnessing another year, with an assurance that his ministry will give maximum support in promoting the festival to an internationally recognised tourism potential.

Earlier, the  Alara of Aramoko Ekiti, Oba  Adegoke Olu Adeyemi, explained that the festival was an annual event to mark the first day of his kingdom's calendar year.

Oba Adeyemi echoed that the festival signified the peace and harmony of the town, calling on all sons and daughters of the town to embrace the tradition by coming home yearly for the celebration.

In his remarks, the Asao of Aramoko Ekiti, Chief Diran Adebayo described the celebration of OLOKUN festival as moment of joy in the town, appreciating the Government of Governor Oyebanji for promoting culture and tourism as means of generating revenue to the coffers of the state.

While appealing to the present generation not to  allow their heritage to go into extinction for whatever reason, Chief Adebayo advised the state government to invest more in arts, culture and tourism as alternative sources of income to the state.

"Olokun annual festival usually begins with Isejana by Omodewa and end up with Ikedi,  meaning cleaning of the town by the King and chiefs. The cleansing is immediately followed by the magnificent appearance of various indigenous age groups in different attires dancing to show their gratitude to Almighty God". He said.
